Series of controlled burns planned at Wilder Ranch

To: Campus Community

From: UCSC Fire Department

The California Department of Parks and Recreation is conducting a series of burns totaling 600 acres at Wilder Ranch State Park as conditions allow. These burns are being conducted to reduce the threat of wildfire and to enhance natural resources within the park.

During the burns, smoke or the odor of smoke will be noticeable on campus. The extent of this will depend on weather conditions.

At the request of UCSC, the state office has provided two phone numbers for people seeking additional information about the schedule of these fires or for people who have concerns about the smoke.

Those numbers are: (831) 335-6384 or (831) 335-6381.
